Hi Siobhan, I have just recently realised the tipping point in marketing communications that is Social Media. I am learning a lot from the crowd at www.marketingprofs.com they have a Social Media Summer Series on at the moment, you have to pay for it, but it's very reasonable. I think NZ needs to catch up with all this SM stuff... do you have any NZ case studies?
Cheers

I think that the "engage" part is the most threatening to traditional PR folks. You can't control those open conversations, and I agree with Brian that transparency is pretty scary to some people. And not just agencies - many clients don't like it either. Imaging if you could see what people really thought of them!

You're right to highlight the recommendations about agencies' social presence. I suspect that if you excluded the ones that don't have any, there would be very few left standing, particularly in a small market like NZ. It feels like the early days of the web - lots of rubbish and only a few people who really get it.

Social media has incredible potential to shake up traditional PR - it's about time, I reckon.

Hey there twitter buddy

I've said even less ever since Facebook added the lazy persons like/unlike box tick thing.

I've been desensitised by the volume of information that comes my way and just can't be stuffed raging-against or even for every machine that comes my way.

I'm more likely to respond to happy kitten photos.

Have you got any?

Media saturation inures us against the provocation to comment.

<a href="http://www.pigsdontfly.com/2009/05/nature-of-audiences.html" rel="nofollow">Zac Martin</a> and I had a rip-roaring argument in his guest post for <a href="http://adspace-pioneers.blogspot.com/2009/05/death-of-hollywood-guest-post-zac.html" rel="nofollow">Julian Cole</a>. Like drunks in a bar, we’ve pushed each other to brink of fisticuffs, but instead revealed the nature of provocation in any debate and how audiences and participants react to it.

Good times I tells ya!

taking your other comment about making comments....banner ads will die a natuaral death. that irritation and feeling of being cheated rings a real bell for me and is surely something that none of us will tolerate to long.

is this the start of a campaign...perhaps we need a banner!!
